Higher education plays a 
very important role in our life. It is also important for the development 
of our country. At universities and institutes students train to become 
teachers, engineers, doctors, architects and other highly-qualified 
specialists. I want to tell you about higher education in Britain and 
Russia.

    - British school graduates get higher education in three 
    types of schools: universities, university colleges and colleges of 
    higher education. In the UK, a total of 89 universities and 70 institutes 
    of higher education . All universities receive government financial 
    assistance except for three private institutions. At universities received 
    more than 30% of school graduates.
- Higher education is fully paid, however, students 
    learn in debt, which start to give only after graduation and employment. 
    Thus, access to higher education is open to all segments of the population. Universities 
    differ from all the other high schools in that they are free to assign 
    academic degrees and determine the conditions of their receipt.  
    Minimum age of applicants is usually 18 years. Most students go to university 
    after high school, but recently increased the number of older students 
    who comes after college.
- Most university courses last from two to four years. 
    This is the main course, after which students receive a bachelor's degree. 
    Those who continued their education for one year receive a master's 
    degree.            
 
Higher education in Russia  
 
    - Russia has about 1,100 public and private high schools 
    with about 7 million students. The main higher education institutions 
    are universities, institutes and academies. Forms of education are full-time 
    and part-time. Education is both paid and free.  Average age for 
    getting higher education in Russia is 17. Students comes on a particular 
    specialty, the curriculum is determined by the state educational standard 
    of higher education. Until 2009, admission to university was carried 
    out on the results of entrance examinations, and now by results of the 
    Unified State Exam that is similar to the British system. The academic 
    year consists of two semesters - spring and autumn and sessions - winter 
    and summer; After the last session, students take state exams and defend 
    a diploma.  Graduates receive a diploma and postgraduates on the 
    basis of defending his doctoral dissertation may be awarded the academic 
    degree.
