United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or Great Britain is a sovereign state situated to the north-west of Continental Europe. It includes the island of Great Britain, where situated England, Scotland and Wales, some part of Ireland island and over 1,000 smaller islands and islets. Greenwich observatory is a place, where indication of geographical longitudes starts. It’s in the southeast of London, zero meridian goes through it. Great Britain is circumfluos by the Atlantic ocean and the North sea. Minimal distance to Europe is 35 km. It is separated from the continent by the North Sea and by the English Channel. The North Channel, Irish Sea, St George's Channel and Celtic Sea separate the island from the island of Ireland to its west.

Great Britain’s area is 243 809 km2. The biggest country of Great Britain is England, its area is 130 395 km2, Scotland’s area is 78 772 km2, Wales-20 779 km2, Northern Ireland-13 843 km2.

Great Britain’s lay is various. The most part of England are lowlands, except the northwest of the country. There are elevated territories of Kamberland mountains, Pennin’s mountains and limestone hills of Exmoor and Dartmoor. There’s a tectonic fracture in Scotland’s lay, which separates scotland’s wold into two: south and north. Wales lay is also mountainous, but it’s more flat in the south then in the central and north part.

The middle of Great Britain depends on the method of calculation, and may be or in Holtwistles town in Northumberland or in Dansop Bridge village in Lancashire.

The highest mountain in Scotland is Ben Nevis-1344m, in Wales-Snow Dun-1085m, in England-Scafell Pike-977m, in Northern Ireland-Sliabh Donairt-852m. The biggest river is Severn, it’s length is 354 km. The deepest lake is Loch Morar, it’s deep is 309 m.

The middle temperature in Great Britain is higher then on the other territories, situated on the same width because of Gaulfstream. Winds blow from the northwest usually. Cloudy weather lasts during half a year.
